WHO LIVES HERE

✦ Surfers and surf families who've been here for decades

✦ Creative professionals — designers, artists, writers, filmmakers

✦ Young families who want great schools with authentic beach culture

✦ People who left Encinitas when it got 'discovered' and want what Encinitas used to be

✦ Remote workers who chose lifestyle over commute convenience

✦ Longtime San Diego residents who know Cardiff is the real treasure

THE REAL VIBE
What life actually looks like day to day

Cardiff has a distinct personality from Encinitas, even though they share a zip code boundary and school district. Encinitas has gotten more discovered, more Instagrammable, more busy. Cardiff is still Cardiff — a little rougher around the edges, more genuinely surf-town, less self-conscious.

The Self-Realization Fellowship temple and grounds on the bluffs are a uniquely Cardiff landmark — meditators, yogis, and curious walkers share the pathway above the ocean, and it creates an unusual peacefulness that the neighborhood somehow absorbs. The lagoon is Cardiff's living room.

Residents walk it, bird watch along it, kayak into it, and watch it change color through the seasons. It provides a natural boundary that keeps Cardiff feeling enclosed and protected in a way coastal communities often don't. On the west side, the streets drop to the beach and the energy shifts to pure surf culture.

LOCAL SECRETS & HIDDEN GEMS

The lagoon trail at sunrise — egrets, herons, and occasionally dolphins visible from the path. Almost nobody else is there before 7am.

Cardiff State Beach south end — south of the campground, locals only energy, best tide pools in the area.

✦ Pacific Coast Grill happy hour — locals arrive early to claim the patio before the views and the crowd collide.

Annie's Canyon trail — technically in Solana Beach but accessed via Cardiff. A stunning slot canyon hike that most people have never heard of.

✦ The Cardiff Kook seasonal costume — someone dresses it up for every holiday. Following the local Instagram accounts that document it is a community ritual.

✦ Seaside Market — the independent grocery store that Cardiff residents will defend with their lives. Better meat, better produce, and the locals
